We research the history of buildings for all sorts of different clients. They may be businesses wanting to promote the historical significance of their property, or homeowners who are intrigued by their house and want to find out more about its history. We research properties of all sizes and all ages, urban and rural, for clients in Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Cheshire and the West Midlands.
Each property is unique. It will have its own character, and its own story:
- We’ve discovered tales of debt and deception, illegitimacy and disinheritance, mortgages and encumbered estates, lawsuits and instructions from beyond the grave.
- We’ve identified the people associated with the property during its life whether owners, occupiers or staff. We’ve brought character to some of the people whose names appear in the records: a physical description of a pious couple who founded a chapel in their town, prizes for full attendance at school for two Victorian sisters, a tenant’s drunken brawl over the price of barley, a farmer’s advertisement for his lost greyhound dog, to name a few.
- We’ve shown how houses have changed through time both inside and outside, traced the location and use of former outbuildings, found the earlier names of many properties, and was even able to tell one client their house had moved.
- We’ve been able to enlighten clients who have a set of old deeds for their house on what they mean and the story they tell. And we’ve found deeds for many properties whose owners had no previous knowledge of their existence.
Our clients are fascinated by their homes and want to learn who has lived in their house before them, what it would have been like, how the building was used and how it has changed since it was built.
In addition, our business clients can attract more customers by enhancing the appeal of their property by learning more of its history and promoting its historical aspects in their marketing material.
